Re: Really Loud Ticking When Driving

If one of the HLA’s has collapsed,
you really wouldn’t notice it visually, witch could be the problem.
But lower end engine noise like wrist pins could sound like a collapsed HLA. But I don’t know how the “Loud Ticking’’ noise really sounds like and at what RPM. a lot of things cause ticking like ignition timing off, low oil and so on.

And you could have outstanding cylinder compression and pass a leak down test and still have a bad bearing or wrist pin. I have driven some cars that for the most part ran like a champ with only 10 thousand miles deep, and pop something loose In the lower end.

I hope its not somthing to serious.

Re: Really Loud Ticking When Driving

berda's 14b made a loud fast clicking noise throughout the rpms. We thought it for sure was lifter tick. Wrong, the turbo was the culprit, the turbine housing had a good size crack and had some shaft play. We put in a different turbo and the problem went away and he could drive his car without it sounding like a really pissed off chipmunk.
