Did Cobb tune it?
graphs? I'd be interested to see the torque curve.

Andrew self-tuned it on the street. He hasn't had it on the dyno since converting to E85. He has the FP4R camshafts so torque hits hard and fast.

Hmmm, well that explains some of it, sucks none the less though. Pushing a stocker that far should really be left to a tuning expert if you try such a thing.
Hopefully good things to come though.

Re: Evo owner new to style
Not sure on the ETA. The car's been down since September and we just started on it yesterday. With Andrew working 6 days a week hopefully within a few months depending on how quickly everything comes together.

Re: Evo owner new to style
Actually the tune was fine 12.1 afr's solid all the way no knock with conservative timing 1 at peak trq with 17 up top. It pulled real hard if any mistake was made it was the boost level with 34 down low being too much for the rods to handle. I would've liked to have seen it on the dyno but it blew before I got the chance. I'm pretty sure that if I had kept the boost to 28-29 it would've held but Fuck me I'm addicted to power always have always will. I'm really excited about the build it should be a fucking torque monster!!!

Re: Evo owner new to style
^Sounds pretty much like my scenario...too much torque is a helluva thing. I'm starting to think my uber stock turbo torque is probably what did my motor in since i had that on there for a year and beat the piss outta the car.

Re: Evo owner new to style
More great progress today, put another ~3 hours into it.
-disassembled the front brakes/hubs
-removed the front axles
-unbolted the A/C compressor
-unbolted the power steering pump
-unbolted the transfer case
The plan for next weekend is to actually get the engine and transmission out of the car, Andrew just has to go pick up the engine hoist and engine stand first.

Re: Evo owner new to style
Good luck Andrew!
And I ran in excess of 30PSI on the stock turbo daily for 50,000 miles on E85. The last 14K miles were on an FP Red around 34PSI and I eventually spun a bearing.
And for the record that ex manifold may be in fact cursed but it worked well on my car. I removed it a few short weeks before I spun a bearing.
Be sure and update us with progress!

Re: Evo owner new to style
Okay with the help from Chris and our good friend Laramie the Mercedes mechanic we successfully removed the engine and trans from the car and took the trans off the engine. What carnage was revealed two massive holes as well as a hole in the transfer case where the rod slapped up against it. Hoping just a new cover is needed on the transfer case! Pics to follow as well as a build thread with lots of pics including CARNAGE!!!!!

Re: Evo owner new to style
Wow, that's serious, and I thought my carnage was bad, this is worse. I'm guessing your head is probably damaged as well. A brand new shortblock from Mitsu isn't bad though, I think it was around $2100 at our favorite local Mitsu dealer, but I'm guessing you want to go built though. Luckily for me, 2.4 blocks are pretty cheap for the 8/9, X's don't have that luxury.

Re: Evo owner new to style
MAP already sourced him a IX block. His spark plugs also came out undamaged...hopefully a good sign.

Re: Evo owner new to style
I wouldn't be surprised if his head was fine. My carnage was even worse than this and my head was still perfect, just had a few scuffs on the cylinder that had the rod go out.
/pray for a usable head!
