You wouldn't be able to tell if it was off a couple teeth(in the pump) while doing a timing belt. Not that I think that is the problem, just one more thing to consider. It still seems like a balance shaft issue to me.
So how do I go about checking this? do I have to rip the belts off? I have the motor down to the timing belt and I turned it over a couple times to check the alignment. Do I have to pull the cover off? If I do this will I basically be far enough into the motor to just ditch the shafts and replace with a stub shaft. Or is there a way I can test to see if the gears are off with out going any farther?
